For the period of the apprenticeship you will be assigned to one regular weekly class (Vinyasa or Ashtanga) where you will be assisting your lead teacher. The lead teacher will prepare you for the first session on a mentorship class where you will discuss your tasks and goals for the classes you will be assisting on. While we will be tailoring the contents of the mentorship to you, your level of teaching experience and your aspirations, the apprenticeship will broadly follow the following schedule and steps:
First mentorship meeting of 2 hours (to take place 2 weeks prior to your first apprentice class). You will get to know your lead teacher, you will revise the goal of the apprenticeship and determine what you should prepare for your first apprentice session. In most cases this will be a short sequence that you will teach on the class and hands-on adjustments that you will be expected to practice in preparation for the class. For vinyasa apprenticeships you will review the main principles of sequencing. For Ashtanga apprenticeships you will revise the sequence and understand the different class formats offered in the studio.
For Ashtanga apprenticeships you will be provided with materials and content to support you in learning the traditional Sanskrit count as well as the Sanskrit names of the Asanas.
Before you start your apprenticeship, you are expected to practice on 2 classes of your lead teacher. These are included in the price of the apprenticeship.
Following each apprenticed class, your lead teacher will provide you with feedback and will assign a new task to prepare for the upcoming week. There are 10 classes apprenticed in total. Depending on your and the lead teachers schedule, the feedback may happen directly after class or asynchronously.
After the first 5 apprenticed classes, your second mentorship meeting of 2 hours will take place. Here you will dive deeper into the art of hands-on adjustments and assists and identify where your lead teacher can best support you as you gain experience and confidence before a class.
Aside supporting the lead teacher throughout the class, you will be expected to learn the check-in process and to help the teacher tidy up after class.
For each class we accept a total of two apprentices to ensure that you have the focus and attention required for your growth. If possible, we will conduct the mentorship meetings together so that you can practice hands-on adjustments together.
Please note that while bookings are possible online, we will carefully review your application and may reject it in case you do not fulfil the requirements of the training.
